Smith's House

Sarah and her daughter, Niki, who was10 years old, had relocated to a 1930 Arts & Crafts style house in a small neighborhood outside of Minneapolis. They were looking to remodel the outdated kitchen and space planning, but they wanted to keep the entrances and interior stairs. Sarah had Persian rugs and fabrics and wanted to match them with the contemporary interior style. Persian elements made the home look traditional, so, some geometric and modern furniture were selected to make them look more contemporary. Niki, had a piano and wanted to put that in the living room. The home only had one bathroom which was not accessible from inside the master bedroom. Sarah wanted to have two bathrooms for the master bedroom and guests. She also intended to add a mudroom area. They needed functional comfortable furniture and plenty of natural sunlight in the living room and bedrooms. Their Color preferences were cream as neutral with warm and feminine accents. Inspiration for color schemes came from the Persian color palette. The flow of the floor plan allows for an open, airy great room, promoting family interaction in all spaces and taking full advantage of the gorgeous outside views.
